Manage and Track Sales Engagement for Contacts and Accounts Automatically
Triggers are events that initiate an automatic change in contact or account stage.
- For example, when an email is delivered to a contact, she/he can be automatically updated to the Approaching Stage. When a contact replies via email, a trigger can update her/him to Replied.
- Important: You DO NOT have to use any particular trigger listed below. To effectively de-activate a trigger, ensure the "Change contact/account stage to..." field for that trigger is left as/updated to "Select contact/account stage" and be sure to click Save.
Contact Email Triggers
Here's how to create and edit Contact Email Triggers:
- Head to Settings > Contacts
- Scroll down to Triggers
- Here you can change the existing email triggers we provide
- Prospect created - The initial stage you want your contacts to start in when you add them to your Apollo Account, via Lead Requests, CSV uploads, or integration with your CRM
- Email delivered - The stage you want a contact updated to when she/he receives an email; note this is tied to the successful delivery of the email, not it being opened or replied to (often set to "Approaching")
- Email bounced - The stage you want a contact updated to when an email you tried to send she/he bounced (generally set to something like "Bad Data" or "No Email")
- Prospect unsubscribed - The stage you want a contact updated to when she/he chooses to unsubscribe, if you include unsubscribe links in your emails by turning that feature on in your User Settings (often set to "Do Not Contact" - this is an important one!)
- Prospect replied - The stage you want a contact updated to when they send a reply to you via email (often set to "Replied", but this stage differs a lot depending on how you define your success metrics)
- Appointment or email marked as interested - The stage you want a contact updated to when you've set a meeting with them, or they get marked as interested in a sequence (generally set to "Interested"). Go here for more information on how this works.
- Unresponsive after last step of the campaign is sent - The stage you want a contact updated to when she/he never ended up replying to you in a given Sequence, but you may want to reach out to again in the future with a different approach (generally set to "Unresponsive")
Contact Call Triggers
Here's how to create and edit Contact Call Triggers:
- Head to Settings > Contacts
- Scroll down to Triggers
- Here you can change the existing call triggers we provide, which are all based on/mapped to the call dispositions you have set up (in Settings > Calls)
Since these are based on the call dispositions you have set, what you decide to map the triggers to is up to you.
Account Triggers
There is only one account trigger - "When an account is created."
This section also includes Exclusions - which is where you set the account stages you always want to exclude from data requests for new prospects.
